How we check every question

All 425 live CDL Mile questions cite the Texas CDL handbook section and page they come from. Each one passed an automated evidence check and a blind solve before going live. Of 426 drafted, 27 were fixed in review and 1 was rejected.

What we start from

The official Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook, DL-7C, revised March 2026. Texas DPS publishes it free.

Our questions are original. They test the handbook's facts in our own words. They never copy handbook text or the handbook's own review questions, and they are never real DPS test questions.

The four steps

  1. Write. Each question is drafted from one handbook section, following a written guide:

    • one correct answer
    • wrong answers that are plausible but clearly wrong
    • no "all of the above"
    • no trick wording
    • a section and page for the answer

Drafting uses AI models working from the handbook.

  2. Machine check. Software checks every question before any review:

    • The evidence for the correct answer must be found word for word on the cited page.
    • Every number in the correct answer must appear in that evidence.
    • No option may refer to another option, since we shuffle them.
    • Wording copied from the handbook, near-duplicate questions and answer-length giveaways are all flagged.
  3. Blind solve. A separate reviewer that didn't write the question answers it using only the handbook, without seeing the answer key. If the blind answer and the key disagree, the question can't go live. The reviewer then checks the wrong answers, ambiguity, the citation and the wording, and returns pass, fix or reject. The reviewers are also AI models, run separately from the writers.

  4. Lock. Each approval records a fingerprint of the exact question it approved. If the question is edited later, it goes back to review. The app only serves questions that are verified and locked.

When the handbook disagrees with itself

While checking, we found places where the handbook gives two different figures for the same thing. We don't test those points, or we teach both versions with both page numbers. The full list is on our Texas CDL handbook errata page.

What we don't do

  • We don't use real or leaked DPS test questions. The official question pools are secure, and using leaked items is test fraud.
  • We don't call anything "official". CDL Mile is independent and not affiliated with Texas DPS or AAMVA.
  • We don't promise you'll pass. We show you where you stand on each test against the 80% pass mark (DL-7C p. iv).

How are CDL Mile practice questions checked?
Every question passes an automated check that its evidence appears on the cited handbook page, then a blind solve by a separate reviewer who does not see the answer key. Approved questions are locked, and any edit sends them back to review.
